In recent years, Mørenot has developed a new longline rope under the brand name Dyrkorn DX, building on over a century of experience with Dyrkorn lines – one of the oldest and best-established brands in the field. For decades, Mørenot has been at the forefront of developing and producing Dyrkorn lines, laying the foundation for the innovation represented by the DX line.
The DX line is available in all of the preferred diameters and has already proven its performance under demanding conditions. It has up to twice the strength of conventional lines, is approximately 30% lighter, and it coils exceptionally well.
One of the key components of the DX line is HMPE (High Modulus Polyethylene), a high-performance fibre known for its high strength, minimal elasticity, and long working life. This makes it exceptionally well suited for longline fishing and other applications in which strength and reliability are crucial.
“We have gained extensive experience in processing and using high-performance fibres,” says Magnús Smith, Sales Manager at Hampiðjan Iceland. “These fibres have proven highly durable and stable under Icelandic conditions.”
A 12mm version of the DX line has been used on board Greenland longliner Masilik, coping easily with the toughest conditions. Recently, full sets of 9.5 mm Dyrkorn DX were delivered to Icelandic longliners Rifsnes and Tjaldur, both of which trialled this line during the last season with excellent results. Several smaller longline vessels, including Sandfell, Hafrafell, and Fjölnir, are now using 7.5 mm DX lines. Eskey also uses the line on its jigging reels, with the lightweight construction – as much as 30% lighter than conventional line – ensuring significantly easier handling.
