Hampidjan has donated towing lines made from the high-performance material Robus to the rescue vessel Gudmundur í Tungu. The vessel is based in Isafjordur and significantly strengthens emergency response capabilities in the area. It was officially commissioned in a formal ceremony in November 2025.
The donation consists of 50 m and 150 m Robus towing lines (24 mm and 28 mm), both fitted with braided protective sleeves to guard against abrasion and damage. Also included are 2.3 m stretchers and four 24 mm Robus quick-connect couplings, enabling the lines to be joined quickly and securely and attached to towing points.
The value of the donation is approximately ISK 2 million. The equipment was formally handed over by Snorri Sigurhjartarson, Operations Manager of Hampidjan Iceland in Ísafjordur, and received by Gauti Geirsson, Chairman of the Rescue Boat Association of the Westfjords, on behalf of the association.
Robus towing lines offer comparable strength to steel wire ropes of similar diameter, while being significantly lighter and easier to handle. This makes them well suited for towing operations in harbours and offshore, as well as for rescue missions where reliability and safety are critical. Their low weight reduces strain during deck operations and improves handling, while durability and wear resistance are engineered to withstand intensive use over time.
ICE-SAR (Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue) owns and operates 13 large rescue vessels positioned around the coast of Iceland, each staffed and maintained by local units to respond to maritime emergencies in Icelandic waters. In recent years, efforts have been underway to renew an ageing fleet. To date, six new rescue vessels have been delivered, located in Vestmannaeyjar, Siglufjordur, Reykjavik, Rif, Hofn, and now in Isafjordur.
Rescue vessels play a critical role in ensuring the safety of fishermen and other seafarers. It is therefore essential that they are well equipped and have access to equipment that meets the demands of challenging maritime conditions. With this donation, Hampidjan aims to contribute to safeguarding seafarers along the coast of Iceland.
