The new netloft of Cosmos Trawl, a subsidiary of Hampiðjan, was officially inaugurated today, Thursday, September 5, in Skagen, Denmark. The building marks a significant milestone in the company’s operations, as it increases the capacity to review and repair multiple trawls simultaneously, with the number of trawl repair tracks increasing from two to four. Advanced equipment, including winches and drums, makes the work easier and significantly speeds up repairs.

Numerous honored guests attended the inauguration, including Birgit S. Hansen, the mayor of Frederikshavn, board members of Hampiðjan, as well as many suppliers and customers. The inauguration ceremony began with a speech by Hampiðjan’s CEO, Hjörtur Erlendsson, at the entrance of the new building.

“The development of Cosmos Trawl in Skagen is a major step forward and reflects our desire to increase services to the fishing industry in Denmark, which has developed rapidly over the past decades,” said Hjörtur. “The fishing fleet, particularly in pelagic fishing, has some of the largest and most advanced vessels in the world. To service these powerful ships, we need large, advanced facilities, equipped with the best possible machinery to handle their increasingly sophisticated fishing gear, made with new materials and more efficient designs.”

Next, Birgit S. Hansen, the mayor, took the stage and emphasized the importance of the new facility for the local community and the fishing industry in Denmark in her speech.
After the mayor’s words, Michael Lassen, managing director of Cosmos Trawl, spoke, saying the 5,000 square meter building was specially designed to increase the company’s ability to serve its customers. “The new net workshop is a significant investment for us,” said Michael Lassen. “It enables us to handle larger fishing gear, improves working conditions, and increases efficiency. Therefore, it strongly supports our future plans for expansion in Skagen and elsewhere in Denmark.”

Following the speeches, Hjörtur Erlendsson, Michael Lassen, and Birgit S. Hansen officially opened the new netloft by cutting a ribbon. Guests were then offered a guided tour of the building, where they were introduced to its features and equipment, including six large trawl drums on the floor and winches and cranes in the ceiling. All this equipment speeds up the production and repair of trawls and trawl bags and represents a significant improvement in working methods. The new net workshop is also ideally located by the quay in Skagen, allowing trawls to be spooled directly to and from vessels docked at the pier. This simplifies the entire production process and facilitates repairs on fishing gear.

The ceremony concluded with a reception celebrating this significant milestone in the history of Cosmos Trawl.

The inauguration marks a turning point for Cosmos Trawl A/S, as the company strengthens its operations in Denmark and the European market in general. With the latest technology and a unique location, it is now in a strong position to expand its service offerings, streamline production processes, and better meet customer needs. The increased service capacity brought by the new building is expected to significantly support the fishing industry in Denmark, with Skagen being one of the largest pelagic fishing ports in Europe. In the near future, Cosmos Trawl is determined to further strengthen its position as a leading company in the Danish fishing industry and a valuable partner in the community.
