Fishing company Skinney-Thinganes has recently confirmed the purchase of remotely operated Thyborøn Type 42 trawl doors for its new vessel currently under construction at Karstensens Skibsværft A/S in Denmark.

The trawl doors, which measure 12.0m² and weigh 4,700kg, are fully remote-controlled and of the same type as those installed on Hákon ÞH 250, the newest vessel in the Icelandic fleet. That system has performed exceptionally well. The doors are operated via keel-mounted control pods, allowing adjustments to their position and performance directly from the wheelhouse during fishing operations. They can also be controlled using a Simrad FM 90i headline sonar with a DynIce Data headline cable or with a traditional wire cable.

Today, around 30 vessels worldwide are operating with Thyborøn’s remote-controlled trawl doors, with consistently strong results.
