Recently, Skinney-Þinganes put new Type 28 trawl doors from Thyborøn Trawldoor into service on the trawler Þinganes SF-25.

These are bottom trawl doors equipped with a hydraulic jack that allows the door area to be increased or reduced as required while the doors are hanging astern of the vessel. The system is of the same type used in fully remote-controlled trawl doors and represents an important step towards increased automation in the control of bottom trawl doors in Icelandic fisheries.

With the introduction of adjustable and partly remote-controlled bottom trawl doors, operators gain the ability to fine-tune settings and maintain better control under varying seabed conditions. The installation on board Þinganes SF-25 therefore marks the beginning of the introduction of new technology in Icelandic demersal fisheries.
