Hampiðjan will organise its annual trip to the flume tank in Hirtshals, Denmark, from 24–27 November 2026. For many years, these trips have been a regular part of Hampiðjan’s activities, providing a valuable forum for professional discussion, exchange of experience and presentations of new developments in fishing gear and fishing technology.
As in previous years, the main focus of the trip will be the programme at the flume tank in Hirtshals, where participants will have the opportunity to see different types of fishing gear under conditions that simulate their use at sea. New developments and projects in demersal and pelagic trawls and other fishing-related equipment will be presented, including Flow Gear, which is designed to replace conventional rockhopper gear.
The flume tank provides a unique opportunity to examine how changes in fishing gear design and configuration affect shape, opening, water flow and behaviour at different towing speeds. Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss equipment performance and operational challenges directly with Hampiðjan specialists and partners.
As in previous years, the programme will not be limited to the flume tank. Visits are planned to companies in Hirtshals and Skagen, giving participants an insight into activities related to the fishing industry, vessels and fishing gear. The final programme for these visits will be announced closer to the date.
The trips have also proved to be an important forum for discussion and networking within the industry. Captains, mates, fleet managers, netmakers and technical personnel have the opportunity to compare experiences, discuss developments in fishing gear and exchange ideas with Hampiðjan staff and other participants.
As usual, there will also be a shared social programme and dinners following the working day at the flume tank.
On Friday, the group will travel to Copenhagen, where the trip concludes with a dinner that evening. Most participants will travel home on Saturday, although there is also the option of returning home on Friday. Some choose to have their partners join them in Copenhagen and take the opportunity to stay for the weekend. At this time of year, the city is already taking on its Christmas atmosphere, making it an ideal opportunity to enjoy Copenhagen before heading home.
Hampiðjan’s flume tank trips have traditionally been well attended, so early registration is recommended. Those interested are encouraged to reserve the dates 24–27 November and get in touch to secure a place.
