Hampiðjan Advant has signed an agreement with the Danish company Cadeler for the production and delivery of heavy-duty lifting slings for East Anglia TWO, one of the major offshore wind projects currently under development in the North Sea off the east coast of England.
Cadeler is a leading global company specializing in the installation of offshore wind turbines. The company focuses on the transportation, installation, operation, and maintenance of offshore wind turbines and their foundations.
The slings will be manufactured by Hampiðjan Baltic in Lithuania using HMPE high-performance fiber and are specifically designed for the heavy lifting operations involved in the installation of offshore wind turbine foundations and turbines. The design of the lifting slings is based on detailed engineering analysis that takes into account the load requirements, dimensions, and operating conditions of each individual project.
The largest slings that Hampiðjan will manufacture for East Anglia TWO are 190 mm in diameter and 64 meters long, with a breaking strength of 4,000 tonnes. They will be used aboard Wind Ace, Cadeler’s new wind turbine installation vessel, during the construction of the wind farm.
The agreement builds on the successful cooperation between Hampiðjan Advant and Cadeler on the Hornsea 3 project earlier this year. In that project, Hampiðjan supplied equipment to Cadeler for the installation of foundations for the Ørsted offshore wind farm. The success of that project laid the foundation for the companies’ continued collaboration and the new agreement for East Anglia TWO.
Hornsea 3 is Ørsted’s 2.9 GW offshore wind farm in the North Sea and is expected to become the world’s largest single offshore wind farm once fully completed. Cadeler is responsible for the transportation and installation of all foundations for the project, as well as part of the wind turbines.
East Anglia TWO is owned by ScottishPower Renewables and will be located in the southern North Sea, more than 30 km off the coast of Suffolk. The wind farm is expected to have a capacity of up to 960 MW and will consist of up to 75 wind turbines.
The new agreement with Cadeler further strengthens Hampiðjan Advant’s position as a supplier of specialized heavy-lifting solutions to the rapidly growing offshore wind energy industry.
